MENDing Yar'Adua's Amnesty

By Hakeem Babalola
I was a guest on Al Jazeera's Inside Story TV programme recently. The topic centred on the amnesty granted to the militants by the Fed Govt. I submitted that the so-called amnesty would fail if the Govt's intention was to play game. That money inducement won't solve the more

Let's wait and see

Let's wait and see what will happen with final militants' attitude to the amnesty before we conclude.

Yaradua is no fool. He's not

Yaradua is no fool. He's not confused as the author say. Nigerian oil money was going down with MEND attacks going up. Pres. Umaru Yaradua knows that economy will suffer unless he makes peace and amnesty. I pray it works but Federal people must give development to Niger Delta more than amnesty. Development is the best amnesty and antidote to militancy. Thanks.

This is another fine essay you have written Hakeem, full of facts and addresses the issue at hand. Please keep it coming, we need people with your powerful writings to give us hope for our country. One thing is for sure, our leaders must realize that until they resolve the main issue of inequity in the NDelta, true peace will not reign as suggested by Prof. David-West.

Have a nice day.
